Formula Racing on the Ice might sound new. But it most definitely is not. Finding a right balance from grip and an entirely different setup required to run well makes it challenging and demanding on the drivers. We are continuously working at Firman West to specifically develop an optimal setup for ice racing application.
We will start testing new components and setups later this 2011 year, on a lake near Cache Creek BC.

About ICE Racing Cars
About the Cars on Ice club, or "Ice racing is beyond hope!"
The Canadian Ice Racing Association of B.C. has been operating for over thirty years. This club organizes ice races under the name "Cars on Ice". Races take place on frozen lakes in central British Columbia. The most popular lake being Barnes Lake near Ashcroft and Cache Creek, B.C. The ice racing members come from all over the province and some from Washington State. The Ice racing season starts shortly after the new year and runs for about two months assuming the lakes stay frozen. The Cars on Ice club requires at least 10 inches of ice before they will allow cars on the lake, although more is prefered. Ice racing cars can be anything from 40 year old Austin Minis and Datsun 510s to modern Hondas, Nisans and Subarus, and Yes open wheel formula cars. The tires these cars use to get traction on this slippery ice can be studded or not. The race cars in the really slippery class, Rubber to Ice, use off the shelf winter tires such as Bridgestone Blizzak, Nokian Hakkapeliitta, or Michilen Aplin. The studded class use tires with 38 studs per foot, or 30 sheet metal screws or a special purpose Menard tyres. The cars on ice, ice racers, race for fun though the competition is intense. Canadian Ice Racing Association was originally formed by ex car ralley (rally ) drivers and the cars on ice club has existed for so long that sons and daughters of the original racers are now competing. |
As we all know, it was just way too much fun.
It all grew from there. The club has had it's ups and downs like all others.
The racing grew to a fully sanctioned series under CASC then CACC
Years past have seen fields of 80 but 25 to 30 cars is the norm.
A season usually consists of four weekends, with racing both days. Two novice ,
five rubber and five stud races each weekend.
Also, a two hour enduro on the third weekend.
