Successful Testing of the RFR Dry Sump & Air Paddle Shift |
February 17, 2010 - Firman West Cars have completed a highly successful private test day at Thunderhill Raceway in which several major systems were track proven including the new RFR Dry Sump Kit for the Suzuki 2009/2010 GSXR-1000 Engine and the Firman West Cars custom designed air-assisted Paddle Shift system.
The RFR Dry Sump was developed by Ralph Firman Racing in the United Kingdom in cooperation with Firman West Cars & George Dean Dyno services for racing applications using the 2009/2010 Suzuki GSXR-1000 engine. Firman West Cars is the exclusive North American dealer for the RFR Dry Sump Kit.
With dry sump development and testing in excess of 12 months and 120 + dyno pulls at George Dean's dyno facility in Seattle, on track testing began recently at Thunderhill Raceway Park February 5th, 2010.
Post testing data revealed flawless oil system performance under extreme testing criteria.
The track test was the final check point for the dry sump kits to conclude the R & D portion of development. Ralph Firman has signed off with full approval for production to begin of the dry sump components for the 2009 / 2010 Suzuki motor. Manufacturing of dry sump components are currently in production at RFR cars in the UK.
Five RFR Dry Sump System kits have been sold already and 2 cars are fitted and race ready with this system. We are extremely pleased to offer to the racing community the 2009 Suzuki engine package that is lighter weight, produces more power than an 07/08 suzuki motor and provides proven oiling system reliability that this dry sump system kit can provide.
In addition to the RFR Dry Sump Kit, Firman West Cars also completed testing of their custom air-assisted paddle shift system. This system is a highly specialized electronic controlled paddle shifter that mounts directly to the steering wheel and operates similar to Formula 1 style paddle shifters. The paddle shift system provides an absolute no-fault shift mechanism that cuts the engine ignition between shifts, and rpm matching shift points thereby eliminating all potential over-revs & seamless gear transitions. This in turn will give longevity to the transmission gearbox by reducing shock loading.
The paddle shift system design allows for a complete no-lift driving application for upshifts and downshifts. The driver is not required to lift off the throttle in between gear shifts as is the case with many other paddle shift systems. The paddle shifter mounts directly to the steering wheel allowing the driver the complete freedom of movement while driving, and provides a F1 tactile shift response of the paddle shift mechanism that gives the driver confident feedback with each shift engaged.

Firman West Cars announces the RFR Dry Sump Kit for
the 09\10 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Engine |
Firman West Cars LLC would like to announce the availability of the RFR Dry Sump Kit designed by Ralph Firman Racing Cars (RFR Cars). RFR Cars developed an Engine Oiling Dry Sump System & Firman West cars developing the Enhanced Oiling modification kit for the 2009/10 Suzuki GSXR-1000 engine. Research & Development began early in 2009 with the assistance of Firman West cars, Suzuki, and George Dean Racing Engines. SCCA F1000 & DSR cars using Suzuki GSXR-1000cc engines will benefit from using this new oiling system. Dyno testing results at George Dean's facility have shown a minimum horsepower rating of 183hp using the stock Suzuki exhaust without any further tuning.
After extensive dyno testing, George Dean Racing Engines and Firman West Cars have discovered that the crankshaft in the Suzuki engine can suffer from significant oil pressure drops between the main journals and the rod journals. This RFR Dry Sump Kit eliminates these pressure drops, and ensures consistent enhanced pressure increases approaching 60 psi at optimal operating temperatures using the stock recommended Suzuki oil used in dyno testing. Under these conditions maximum horsepower output potential of the engine is reached, and most importantly, engine longevity has been enhanced. In development for the past 11 months, this dry sump system has been proven to not lose horsepower through lateral cornering G-forces, unlike Wet sump systems, nor does it suffer from the potential for scavenging the oil pump (through cavitation) that is inherently found in wet sump systems currently used in some race cars today.
An optimized exhaust system developed and designed by Firman West Cars & George Dean will be available soon for all RFR customers. This new exhaust system will further optimize and enhance the horsepower output.
The F1000ProSeries.com will be showcasing cars with the newly developed dry sump system. Firman West Cars will be running the Dry Sump Kit in early in 2010 on all their newly delivered cars competing in the F1000 Pro Series.
The exclusive North American Importer & distributor of the RFR Dry Sump Kit for the Suzuki Engine is Firman West Cars LLC. Firman West Cars is also taking reservations for the newly tuned horsepower enhancing exhaust system. Delivery dates are being prioritized according to reservation dates.
Firman West Cars is able to provide Complete 09/10 Engine packages (Motor + RFR Dry Sump Kit) Pre-installed and dyno’d at George Dean Racing Engines motor testing facility in Seattle Washington. These RFR Dry Sump kits will also be available for purchase separately to any interested parties.
